The 2010 Honda Odyssey is top dog among Minivans, but edgier rivals like the 2011 Toyota Sienna have forced Honda to make some serious changes. Completely redesigned for 2011, the Honda Odyssey will feature a lower stance, sleeker profile and more modern-looking design. It’ll still be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, but according to Honda will net an impressive city/highway fuel economy rating of 19/28 mpg — which bests the Sienna’s top rating of 18/24 mpg. What’s more, the 2011 Odyssey will provide more legroom, while still maintaining its eight-passenger seating capacity. Other cool new features include a refrigerated cooler, a whopping 15 cup holders and an available 16.2-inch dual-view-capable ultra-wide DVD Rear Entertainment System.

~US News & World Report

The 2010 Honda Fit ranks 2 out of 31 Affordable Small Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 30 published reviews and test drives of the Honda Fit, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The 2010 Honda Fit is a winner is almost every respect. Beloved by the automotive press for its innovative storage options, its extensive list of available features and its zippy ride, the Fit is a good choice for anyone shopping for an affordable small car. The 2009 model was even named one of US News & World Report’s Best Cars for the Money in the subcompact class.

The Honda Fit won our Best Hatchback for the Money award for 2010. For the third year in a row, the Fit was named a Car and Driver “10Best”. Reviewers, themselves, are generally exuberant in their descriptions of the Fit. Car and Driver is especially animated, saying, “We love the Honda Fit. Roomy inside and more fun to drive than a team of coked-up sled dogs.”

Recently, the Honda Fit has been the subject of a recall due to a faulty window switch. According to Honda, if the switch gets wet, it could cause a vehicle fire. Seven fires have been reported in the United States. The recall covers 141,000 Fits in the U.S., all from the 2007 and 2008 model years. If you’re interested in a 2010 Fit, know that it isn’t affected by the recall. But if you’re shopping used Fits, make sure the car you’re looking at has been fixed.

Among the Fit’s most talked about features is its renowned “Magic Seat,” which transforms to allow for three separate storage modes — tall, long and utility — and is surprisingly comfortable for a rear seat. The Fit is also commended for its long list of standard and available features — from its 10 cupholders and speed-sensitive volume control to its Satellite-linked navigation system with voice recognition. Reviewers are thrilled that you can find all of this in an ultra fuel-efficient car (28 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway) that’s even fun to drive.

Of course, the Fit isn’t flawless. Its sun visors are essentially useless and the front seat is a tight fit for very taller drivers. All in all, though, these setbacks hardly take much away from the Fit as a complete package. Note that the Fit can be a bit pricey for its class, so consider the Kia Soul if you’re looking for a good daily driver with a similarly extensive list of options and impressive cargo capabilities. The Soul starts at around $2,000 less than the Fit. If low price and cargo capacity are less of a priority but the Fit’s unusual look doesn’t appeal to you, you might also consider the Honda Civic, another press favorite that is in the same general price range as the Fit.

The Fit is unchanged for 2010, so savvy car buyers may want to consider purchasing a 2009 model. Be sure to check for current Honda deals that may be available on the new Fit.

“The 2010 Honda Fit, a perennial favorite of the automotive press and customers alike, offers value and versatility in a fun-to-drive and fuel-efficient five-door package.” — Automotive.com

“Fit’s strongest selling points are its impressive passenger accommodations and large, versatile cargo space. Sport models add a touch of fun-to-drive appeal. While prices seem steep for a subcompact, this is one in name and exterior size only; it’s really a small wagon that challenges some compact SUVs for room while getting significantly better fuel economy.” — Consumer Guide

“For the small hatchback shopper, or even car enthusiast daydreamers who need something to get to work, Honda’s Fit is the best pick out there.” — Edmunds

“The Fit is pretty near the top of my favorite-cars list, and not because it’s so fast and awesome-looking — because it oh-so ain’t. It has the beauty of a certain well-wrought urn, exactly what it needs to be — self-defined, lightly perfect.” — Los Angeles Times

“Although this entry-level hatchback is priced slightly higher than most of its competition, the Fit nevertheless offers an ample supply of features, versatility and, above all, that unbeatable Honda resale value.” — Kelley Blue Book

Fit Performance – 8.2 (Very Good)

Most of the automotive press agrees that the Fit is a capable performer and even fun to drive. “Ride, acceleration and handling: The new Fit gets top marks in all three categories. It is one of the most enjoyable small cars on the road,” says the Washington Post. Still, numerous reviewers complain about the Fit’s noticeable engine noise. Read More

Fit Exterior – 7.3 (Good)

The Honda Fit’s design is unchanged for 2010. While reviewers recognize that function trumps form in this compact, they can’t help but comment on what they see as strange styling. The Los Angeles Times is the most blunt about the design, saying, “Honestly, this thing couldn’t get a date for the prom with duct tape and a burlap sack. But that’s part of its counterintuitive charm.” Read More

Fit Interior – 8.7 (Very Good)

With a spacious cabin featuring high-quality amenities and the popular “Magic Seat,” the 2010 Honda Fit boasts one of the most well-liked interiors of its class. Kelley Blue Book says, “In typical Honda fashion the Fit’s interior blends visual appeal with real-world practicality.” Read More

Fit Safety – 9.8 (Excellent)

The 2010 Fit earns top scores in nearly all federal government crash tests and overall high marks from the insurance industry, with “Good” ratings for frontal, side and rear impact crashes. Still, a drawback is that an anti-skid system and vehicle stability assist with traction control are not available for the car’s base model. Read More

Fit Reliability – 8.0 (Very Good)

The 2010 Honda Fit reliability score shown is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power’s automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS). The 2010 Honda Fit has a basic bumper-to-bumper warranty for the first three years or 36,000 miles.

The automaker beat out Toyota and Chrysler, which builds nearly all of its
cars in North America. Kicking Tires reports that this year, Honda has
built 555,734 vehicles in the U.S. and a total of 756,788 vehicles in North
America. That bests the 468,440 vehicles that Chrysler produced in the U.S.
and Toyota’s 430,535. Ford and General Motors still far surpass Honda in
terms of U.S. production. According to The Detroit News, Honda built more
vehicles in the United States than in its home country of Japan through the
second quarter. Honda has more than 10 factories in the U.S., with two new
plants under construction, and 14 R&D facilities. Honda employs more than
27,000 people in the U.S.; Toyota has 28,700 American employees. Honda was
also the first Japanese automaker to build cars in the U.S., starting with
the Accord back in 1982. Click here for Kicking Tires’ coverage of Honda’s

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted July sales of 112,437 vehicles, a decrease of 5.6 percent, based on the daily selling rate*, the company announced today. American Honda year-to-date sales reached 706,346, an increase of 9.4 percent versus last year.

Honda Division posted July sales of 99,420, a decrease of 9.7 percent versus July 2009. Honda trucks posted sales of 44,823 up 23.4 percent, led by the CR-V, up 0.9 percent with sales of 20,058; the Odyssey up 37.8 percent with sales of 9,711; and the Pilot, up 45.4 percent with sales of 9,570. The Accord was the top-selling Honda model for July with sales of 25,386, followed by the Civic with 23,231.

“A year ago the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program began and sales of fuel-efficient Honda vehicles picked up quickly at the end of the month,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. “Although July sales declined versus last year, our sales increased compared to June 2010, which is a positive sign.”

Acura Division posted July sales of 13,017, an increase of 44.7 percent versus July 2009, and year-to-date sales of 74,134, an increase of 24.1 percent. The RDX posted record July sales of 1,708, up 216.9 percent. The MDX was the top-selling Acura model for the month with sales of 4,194, up 63.4 percent. The TSX also posted strong sales, up 39.9 percent.

*The daily selling rate (DSR) is calculated with 27 days for July 2010 versus 26 days for July 2009. Year-to-date, the DSR is calculated with 178 days for 2010 and 2009. All percentages reflect DSR.

The 2011 Accord builds upon one of the most celebrated cars on the road today, featuring more-aggressive styling and signature Accord performance.

Every Accord emphasizes value, and each trim level has a high number of available features. Options like a USB Audio Interface[1] and paddle shifters give more models—and more drivers—access to a sophisticated driving experience.

[1] The USB Audio Interface is used for direct connection to and control of some current digital audio players and other USB devices that contain MP3, WMA or AAC music files. Some USB devices with security software and digital rights-protected files may not work. Please see your Honda dealer for details.

Conceived around a small “footprint” for maximum convenience in tight urban settings, P-NUT features a sleek exterior design that allows for a spacious and open interior with excellent visibility. The layout of the interior space, with its center driving position flanked by two rear seats, provides generous legroom for all occupants in a vehicle that has an exterior footprint similar to an ultra-compact car. The modular rear engine bay is designed to accommodate a wide variety of potential propulsion technologies including a conventional small displacement internal-combustion engine, a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, or a battery-electric powertrain.

As the release of the 2011 CR-Z Sport Hybrid nears, many of you are wondering what this car is like to drive as well as how much it will cost. Honda recently announced the CR-Z would start at $19,200 [1]. Add in destination and handling charges and the sport hybrid will still be under $20,000. And while you patiently await your first CR-Z test drive, you can read early driving impressions from two well-known and respected car gurus—James Bell and RJ de Vera. They borrowed the keys to an early production CR-Z and drove it in real-world situations—not inside a lab or on a perfectly prepared test track. You can read about their test-driving adventures and watch videos by pointing your browser to the CR-Z Intersections site .

Pam Gregoire had an extra special reason to celebrate over the July 4th weekend. She was the lucky winner of the autographed guitar from the band STYX. Gregoire’s name and entry was chosen Saturday afternoon at TEAM HONDA during the 2-hour live remote by EAGLE 98.1FM.

In May, for the second time in three years, the Team Automotive Group (Team Honda and Team Toyota) joined Eagle 98.1 to sponsor Baton Rouge’s biggest birthday bash and best rock concert, this year featuring Styx, Foreigner and Kansas. Styx was also a part of the first birthday bash and concert two years ago in Baton Rouge.

The guitar giveaway and live remote were a continuation of the event sponsorship. Along with the grand prize of the autographed guitar, over 25 door prizes were handed out to registrants, including prizes from Acme Oyster House, Boutin’s Restaurant, Blue Bayou Water Park/Dixie Landing, H&R Block, Pierre Crawdeaux, and On the Bright Side. Over 100 people registered for the giveaway over a two week period at Team Honda.

Thanks to everyone who registered and congratulations to Pam on her Holiday weekend surprise! ROCK ON PAM!!

** Pictured are Gordy Rush – Eagle 98.1 Program Director, Pam Gregoire – winner of the Styx autographed guitar, and Victor Howell – Team Automotive Group.
